STATEMENT OF FAITH
1. Scripture: We believe the Old and New Testament Scriptures to be inspired, inerrant in the original writings, and the revealed Word of God. The Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21, 3:16)
2. Triune God: We believe in one infinitely perfect, almighty, eternally existing God, who is the Creator of all things. In the Godhead, there are three equally divine persons, existing as one God, working in perfect unity with distinct roles: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; John 1:1-3, 20:28, Acts 5:3-4; Jude 20-21)
3. God the Father: We believe that God the Father is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He rules over the universe, exercises providence over all of creation, and seeks for his will to be done. He loves the world and is the Author of Redemption. His wrath will be poured out on all unrighteousness.
(Genesis 1:1; Luke 22:42; John 3:16, 20:21; Ephesians 1:11)
4. Jesus Christ: We believe that the eternally existing Son of God, Jesus Christ, through whom and for whom the universe was made, is God made flesh – both fully God and fully Man. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and conceived through the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life, was crucified on the cross, was dead and buried for three days, rose from the dead, and received a glorified body. He then ascended into heaven where he sits at the right hand of the Father, waiting to return to earth where he will judge the living and the dead.
(Matthew 1:18-23; Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51; John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 1:16-19; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Timothy 4:1)
5. Holy Spirit: We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and
judgement. The Spirit regenerates the believing sinner, guides, instructs, gifts, and empowers the believer for Christ-like living and service.
(John 14:26, 16:8; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 12:11; Galatians 5:25; Titus 3:5)
6. Man: We believe that Man was created in the image of God – both male and female – so that we might glorify God and enjoy fellowship with him. Our relationship to God and creation itself was broken when man rebelled against God, bringing about sin, death, and God’s righteous judgement and wrath. As a result, all human beings are born with a sin nature, utterly depraved, and unable to reconcile themselves to God by their own effort.
(Genesis 1:27; Psalm 51:5; Romans 1:18, 3:10-19, 8:20-22; Ephesians 2:1)
7. The Gospel and Salvation: We believe that God, by his grace, sent his one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die as a sacrifice for sins. Through his sacrifice, which required the shedding of blood, Jesus absorbed the righteous wrath of God while bestowing on sinful man his own righteousness. Christ serves as the great high priest and mediator between God and man. Christ’s death has provided us new life, reconciliation to God, and eternal redemption. We believe that justification before God and salvation from the wrath of God occurs for those who by faith in the grace of God and by no good work of their own, repent of sin and place their faith in Jesus Christ.
(John 3:16; Romans 3:25; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Hebrews 9:11-15; Mark 1:15; Romans 3:22-24; Ephesians 2:8-9)
8. The Church: We believe that the church is not an institution, denomination, or gathering place; rather, it is a local gathering, with Christ as the head, of true believers, for the purposes of worship, mutual encouragement, spiritual nourishment and growth, disciple making, and equipping the saints. The church is also universal in that it encompasses all true believers, unbound by any geographical region.
(Matthew 28:19; Acts 9:31; Ephesians 1:22-23, 4:11-13; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 10:24-25)
9. Ordinances: We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are to be observed by the church.
(Acts 2:38; Acts 8:36-38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
10. Marriage: We believe that God ordained marriage and created it only to be between a man and a woman. Marriage is ordained to last until the death of a spouse and the scriptures permit divorce only in the case of sexual immorality or if a spouse becomes a believer and the unbelieving spouse abandons the marriage. Marriage was created to be a model for the church as the bride of Jesus Christ and honoring God in marriage gives Him glory.
(Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:3-9; 1 Corinthians 7:10-16; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 1 Timothy 1:9-11; Ephesians 5:31-32)
11. Return of Christ: We believe in the personal, imminent, and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ who will come at an hour that only the Father knows. He will come to judge the whole world, bringing about the consummation of all things.
(Matthew 24:29-44; Matthew 25:31-46; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2)
12. Consummation: We believe that all those in Christ will be eternally redeemed and restored into a right relationship with God where we will see him face to face and live with him eternally in the new heaven and new earth. We also believe that those who have rejected Christ will face eternal destruction and will be condemned in the lake of fire separated from the presence of God.
(2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:1-5)
